Fire Index and the Funkey Chicken

    Hi Gassers

The Weather Channel still has a fire weather advisory posted, meaning if you start a fire with your gas plane (or turbine), it's going to spread like crazy.  I know the signs with the rules are not ready yet, or posted, but please get your own fire extinguisher for your planes.  Think of it like buying a receiver or an engine for the plane...necessary!   I have left my own personal GIANT dry chemical extinguisher by the water cooler for our member's use on the flight line (pits), but nothing is like having the right tool for the right job, right at hand!  And please do not be fooled by the fire station being right down the road...they might be out on a call when you light the place up!  Remember, amnesty ends when the signs go up.  Be smart and get one now.

Also I have noticed several pilots, who pit in the grass to the East (and West) of the pit area, are TAXIING ACROSS THE TAXIWAYS WHERE PILOTS ARE FLYING IN FRONT OF THE PILOTS. Please do not do this.  You are distracting those pilots and PUTTING THEM IN DANGER.  This is no different than TAXIING IN THE PITS...DON'T DO IT!!!!!  Call "Taking Off", and taxi straight out to the runway.  The Taxiway on which a pilot is standing BELONGS TO THAT PILOT as long as he is standing on it or behind the barrier next to it.  Give them that courtesy, please.  You'll understand why when it is you at the pilot's station, and an "ankle biter" makes you do the Funkey Chicken!

Your (they made me do it) Safety Officer,

    Jaffray Stephenson
